At studio HINGE, we have been designing and making bespoke furniture, accessories and lighting for use within our own interior design and architectural projects for nearly a decade. After many enquiries over the years, it seemed natural, necessary even, to produce and offer the furniture as individual objects.
The first collection HONE:HOME embodies our love of natural material and our attention to detail. We find joy in designing, and believe that this comes through in the built product we offer.
We celebrate the natural, and embrace the variations in tone and colour that this brings.
Our furniture is largely made by hand by skilled craftsmen who have several generations of experience behind them.
In creating these, it is important for us that we maintain our responsibility toward the natural world. The finishes and processes are environment-friendly. Teak is one of the finest hardwood species available, whose value increases with age as it is properly seasoned over time so as not to expand or contract further. It also contains a high oil content which gives it superior natural ability to fight fungi, termites, and rot. As teak is a slow-growing species, we use almost only recycled timber.
To seal the wood we use a German water-based acrylic sealant which is certified as being free of harmful chemicals to the highest European standards.
